It's a women's online boutique at the moment, women's clothing.

It's gonna be an art and fashion mobile boutique that I'm currently building.

It's taken a while, but I am definitely continuing this journey to the

end, regardless of what happens.

And then eventually, I'll have a brick and mortar location, but I'm gonna also

have my trucks, so I'm gonna have both.

That's what I do now, and I'm also a teacher.

So, for this particular thing, for presenting and speaking, public

speaking isn't really a problem, because you're already a teacher.

So this is more tips and tricks around possibly doing a Live, yes?

So have, let me ask you the million dollar question.

How are you at taking selfies?

Keva: 00:01:34

You know, I have that same pose every time, with the head

tilt and the neck looking forward, with a side profile type of look.

I have that.

Keva: 00:01:44

Typical, but not a, not a straightforward, kind of a old school

Keva: 00:01:49

Hollywood glam type of, doey eye.

Oh, that sounds

So, the reason I ask, is because I was at a conference and I met

a woman who is amazingly good at selfies, which I am historically not.

And so I was taking pictures of myself and I was holding my

Kirsten: 00:02:17

phone essentially straight arm out, right in front of my face.

Kirsten: 00:02:21

And I've never liked how those looked.

Kirsten: 00:02:23

And she, when I was taking a picture with her, she goes, "Could

Kirsten: 00:02:26

I give you a little guidance?"

Kirsten: 00:02:27

And I said, "Yes, please."

Kirsten: 00:02:28

So she actually pushed my arm up, so that essentially my arm was about where my

Kirsten: 00:02:33

forehead is and tilted it down a little.

Kirsten: 00:02:36

And she said, "Try to get the top of your head essentially into the top of

Kirsten: 00:02:40

the frame so that you're seeing your full face, and it's also angled a little

Kirsten: 00:02:43

bit down to, to you, and you look up and directly into it and you smile."

Kirsten: 00:02:47

And it's the best selfie I took at any conference this year.

Keva: 00:02:51

Kirsten: 00:02:51

So, I think my first piece of advice is going to be try doing some

Kirsten: 00:02:56

different Lives of yourself where you record with different hand positions for

Kirsten: 00:03:01

a minute or two, and then go look at it and see if that's the look that you want.

Keva: 00:03:06

I'm gonna do that.

Because I think that will help.

Kirsten: 00:03:08

And also, lighting is an issue and audio is an issue.

Kirsten: 00:03:12

So, wherever you're going to be doing this, if you can find a similar

space and do some practice runs, that would help, because then you're not

Kirsten: 00:03:20

doing it for the first time and are back lit, which most people end up

Kirsten: 00:03:25

being backlit without realizing it.

Kirsten: 00:03:26

And then it throws off the colors, and it throws off your brightness, and it

Kirsten: 00:03:31

just makes everything kind of worse.

Kirsten: 00:03:32

Now, that's if you're planning on doing it just sort of rolling.

Kirsten: 00:03:35

Were you planning on using your phone?

Kirsten: 00:03:37

Did you wanna get some serious equipment?

Kirsten: 00:03:40

What are your thoughts around that?

Keva: 00:03:41

Well, initially, I would probably start with my phone, but I would

like to graduate to the next level.

Kirsten: 00:03:46

Mm-hmm

Keva: 00:03:46

Because I really don't want, that's another thing that's,

be like a hesitation, is I want it to be done a certain way.

So I want the lighting to be a certain way, and I don't know

That camera, the cell phone is gonna to give me exactly I'm looking

for, but, you know, sometimes you just have to launch things ugly, I guess.

But not too ugly, because I want

people to be able to see my clothing, but, so

I'm kinda torn between that.

Like, should I wait and get some equipment?

Or should I just start where I am and use my phone?

Well, my suggestion would be to start and to do just small test

Kirsten: 00:04:16

runs, and then do a couple of Lives that are, Lives have an energy and

Kirsten: 00:04:21

they have a connection, and people love the intimacy of it and the fact

Kirsten: 00:04:24

that it's something where, if something goes wrong, something goes wrong.

I mean, you're a teacher.

Kirsten: 00:04:29

You roll with what happens, so you've already got the, the stagecraft of being

Kirsten: 00:04:34

able to go, "Oh, somebody's acting up.

Kirsten: 00:04:37

Okay."

Oh yeah

"Let's play," and deal with it.

Kirsten: 00:04:40

Yeah, I mean, high school,

Mm-hmm

You, you've got that in spades.

So, I would say get some, make sure you have some decent

Kirsten: 00:04:47

lighting and be lit on both sides.

Obviously, you already know fashion.

You already know your colors, so wearing something that really looks the best on

Kirsten: 00:04:55

you and reads will really well on camera.

Mm-hmm

And then, I'm not sure how it'll look, but you could experiment with the

Kirsten: 00:05:01

flipping the camera from facing out to facing in, so that you could film your

Kirsten: 00:05:07

clothing, and then flip it around to you, and then push it up a little bit

Kirsten: 00:05:10

and go, "Okay, this is what I'm doing."

Kirsten: 00:05:12

And have it be little quick, like, two minute hits, just

Kirsten: 00:05:16

little, like, sneak shots because

I love that.

Stuff like that, or just, go ahead.

Have you done any Reels?

Oh, I do them all the time.

way, you know, from the top, from the bottom to the side, or, if somebody sends

So, yeah, I, I do Reels, like, almost every day.

that I found really engaging, and you'll have to kind of determine

what your audience wants, but I love the behind the scenes stuff.

Oh, here we are," and that kind of stuff, and just little clips, 15

second clips of that, and then a montage of the photos, might be really,

really helpful.

And then that's not a full commitment to Live, but it gets you out

there enough to get some traction.

Yes, just a couple, but I, I use them.

I use one and over again, because she's so popular.

So, when you're gonna be doing Live events, what kind

of setting is this gonna be at?

Keva: 00:06:55

Ooh, that's a great question.

Well, I'm a really, girly girl, and so, I like the flowers and,

Keva: 00:07:03

like, my truck is really gonna be what my personality is like.

Keva: 00:07:06

So it's like flowers, if you, if you see my first photo shoot that

Keva: 00:07:10

I had for my truck, you'll see.

Keva: 00:07:11

It's, like, I had like a floral picnic, and there was a bird cage chair that

Keva: 00:07:16

had flowers on the arch of it, and it was just, you know, I had an old, a

Keva: 00:07:23

vintage sofa and she was draped over it, and there was a vintage telephone.

Keva: 00:07:28

So, I think, I don't, I don't wanna do the same thing every time, but

Keva: 00:07:31

I like when old school meets new school, that's kinda my style.

Keva: 00:07:35

So, it would probably be a setting where it's really girly.

Keva: 00:07:39

It's kind of girly, but playful at the same time, not, not stuffy or boring.

So I've decided.

I think, I think candids definitely will work well for you.

Kirsten: 00:07:50

You already have a leg up in that you don't have to get over public speaking.

You already have presenting skills.

So it's kind of the logistics.

And, as always, have a backup plan.

You know, if, because things always go wrong.

I will say that as you start to get more sophisticated with your

equipment, one of the things that is underestimated is how much really goes

into getting a really good green screen.

So, if you decide to kind of go the full route of full video production,

just be aware that it's really easy to do it and have it not quite work.

So, having it work really well is a pretty big commitment.

So, I would start with the casual and simple and the phone, and kinda get

your sea legs, and get a feel for what you wanna do, and start incorporating

things in pieces, rather than doing sort of a big leap and a full commitment

into the video production piece.

I was taking care of my dad for some years, so it kinda pushed

But, I just decided to launch online, because, you
